Hey, I'm pretty new to programming but I like your project, and I thought I might try to create a zim file. I was thinking of using the "Subjects Taught in Medical School" category from wikipedia and making a special zim file for med students. Will I be able to do that if I review my Perl and hack away at the scripts posted here? Ab1 00:45, 31 August 2011 (CEST)

Yes, you would, and we are happy to help. (Please sign your comments on talk pages by typing the tilde (~) sign four times consecutively at the end of your comment). Ijon 00:34, 31 August 2011 (CEST)
Yes, you can, but this is not easy. Come on IRC #kiwix channel if you need help. Kelson 16:57, 31 August 2011 (CEST)

Convert xml dump into zim

The present method of generating an zim file is insanely time-consuming and complicated: Setting up an local media wiki and x hours of converting back and forth just for the one zim file? Isn't (or won't) be there a way of just converting an xml dump straight into the zim format? That would be much easier and less hassle. --Arisboch 18:02, 20 June 2012 (CEST)

This is not possible for now because the XML dump content is wikitext and the ZIM file content is HTML. Kelson 21:06, 20 June 2012 (CEST)
So won't be there some ingenous programmes who let ... some kinda programm handle all this converting form xml into html and then into zim without this whole installing of a mediawiki?--Arisboch 21:44, 20 June 2012 (CEST)
This program is a wikitext parser... and for now, we only have one good, this is the Mediawiki one. But we will generate soon ZIM file for all projects... so just be a little bit patient. Kelson 21:47, 20 June 2012 (CEST)
I'm not talking only about mediawiki, I'm talking about any wiki (wikis from wikia or any other)... The current moethod is simply too complicated!--Arisboch 23:22, 20 June 2012 (CEST)
I agree, but xmltozim is not the solution. We work to improve that point... Kelson 09:16, 21 June 2012 (CEST)
