کیویکس شما را قادر میسازد تا بدون اتصال به اینترنت و به صورت آفلاین، از محتویات اینترنت استفاده کنید. اگر چه کیویکس نرمافزاری است که برای کامپیوترهای دسکتاپ ساخته شده است، اما نسخه سرور HTTP آن با نام kiwix-serve نیز موجود است. برای شروع استفاده از کیویکس، شما باید برنامه آن را با توجه به سیستم عاملی که استفاده میکنید دریافت کنید. پس از این کار و پس از نصب برنامه، شما قادر خواهید بود که از کیویکس و مختویات آفلاین درون آن بر روی کامپیوتر خود استفاده کنید.
Microsoft Windows
نرمافزار کیویکس سازگار با ویندوز در دو شکل متفاوت در دسترس است:
- نسخه پرتابل که پس از دریافت برنامه، باید آن را از حالت فشرده خارج کنید.
- نسخه نصبشدنی که برای استفاده از آن نیاز به نصب برنامه خواهید داشت.
کیویکس سازگار با ویندوز، برنامهای 32 بیتی است و از ویندوز XP و نسخههای پس از آن پشتیبانی میکند و همچنین با سیستمعاملهای 64 بیتی هم سازگار است.
Apple Mac OSX
Kiwix for Apple Mac OSX is provided as DMG file. You simply need to download it, mount the DMG image and copy/install Kiwix to the Applications folder. So far, there is no portable (directly usable on a USB flash drive for example) version of Kiwix for Apple Mac OSX.
Android
Kiwix for Android is a new version of Kiwix. It provides an easy way to enjoy Wikipedia and other ZIM files on all Android4+ devices. This app. has a perfect Android look&feel and is extremely fast. Give it a try on the Google Android App. Store or download directly the APK file from Sourceforge.
GNU/Linux
Kiwix for GNU/Linux is a standalone application provided for the x86 architectures:
- 32 bits binaries (Download this if you don't know)
- 64 bits binaries
Unpack the downloaded file and run the "kiwix" program. If you have a 64 bits x86 system and try to run the 32 bits version of Kiwix, check that you have the multi arch support installed on your computer.
We also provide a precompiled version of kiwix-serve and other Kiwix console tools for ARM CPUs. You may download it here.
A few GNU/Linux distributions also provide packages of Kiwix:

Kiwix can run on almost every operating system. But, we don't provide pre-compiled binaries for all of them. If you are interested in running Kiwix on an operating system for which we don't provide binaries, you will need to download Kiwix source code and compile Kiwix on your own.
