To obtain Wikipedia offline on your computer, you can download these previously listed components separately or download a package with everything inside. That's the reason why we propose both to download:

* '''Non-indexed ZIM''' files contains only a ZIM file and you may want to [[Special:MyLanguage/ZIM Indexing|index]] it to be able to use the fulltext search.
In order to read and enjoy all of them, you will need:
* '''Portable pre-indexed ZIM''' file contain the Kiwix software with an indexed ZIM file. Everything is compressed in a ZIP file. For now, these packages work only for wit Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux. In these packages, the ZIM files may be split into several 2 gigabytes parts to be compatible with FAT32 file-systems.

The portable pre-indexed ZIM is a little bit bigger than the Non-indexed ZIM file, but if you have enough bandwidth, we recommend to download it. It's the easiest way to have a directly usable Wikipedia offline and this package be really easy to copy on many different places.

Kiwix recommends using BitTorrent

Kiwix is perfect for reading many different types of content - like for example Wikipedia - offline.

In order to read and enjoy all of them, you will need:

  1. Kiwix (the software)
  2. The ZIM file with the content of your choice.

Once Kiwix (the software) is installed you have many ways to download content (files):

  • With Kiwix if your version of Kiwix allows it. Once you have Kiwix open, go to the Kiwix internal library to pick your content.
  • BitTorrent which downloads the file with a torrent software. Using BitTorrent saves our bandwidth and verifies that your file is not corrupted during the download process.
  • Direct download which downloads the file directly with your browser.

All content (ZIM files) are available at the Kiwix Online Library

Remark: More information about the ZIM file names nomenclature can be found here (in English)
